Everything Marcus Freeman said after his first fall camp debut

“You have to be smart, you have to rotate it. It’s a challenge. You know, Coach McCullough is very challenging, because he’s a competitor just like us. And he wants to put the best players out there. He wants to engage the players and he wants to make sure we have success. We have to throw these guys. On (Logan) Diggs he hasn’t fully made contact with him yet. So, I saw him in red. And so, we have to get ahead of him the right way.

“So, they’ve done a really good job so far. I’m sure they’re going to be creative. I know Coach Reese, we’ve talked about, being creative in terms of the staff and how we take advantage of these guys. But you have to get the work done. You know, we can’t all wear Our backs are red and we think we’ll be ready for the season.

“So, I just don’t believe in being overly cautious. I think we have to be smart. But we can’t protect them overly in that we are not ready.”

About pleasant surprises on the list…

Jaden Mickey He was a freshman and did a really good job in the spring. It is an energy provider. As you know, these self-confident guys save energy. Brandon Joseph, same thing. Offensive line, I’ll keep coming back to those guys, man. Zeke CorelI mean, because of the spring he had and what he showed, we felt that getting the top five offensive linemen out on the field would be J-Pat’s transfer to guard. It obviously showed us a lot of value in the spring. And so, you know, my gosh, I don’t like referring to men. But these are just two guys. Yes, that was just two guys.”

On Jayden Thomas…

“Yeah, we’re going to need him to have a big part in this offense this year. He’s defied him. I challenge him all the time. We’re going to need you. We want you to step up. And he’s a confident kid. He’s getting better and better and better. He’s improving quickly because we’re going to need a lot of him. He has to be a guy if the defense is playing cover against us, we feel we can go to him and win. That has to be who he is.”

on how Isaiah Fosky can improve…

“Huge amount. He can improve in many different areas. And I’m talking about a really good guy. right? He continued to master the dash of passes. How do you play against running? You know, how do you keep familiar with the offensive combinations and formations? All of those different areas can help him boost. And he wants it. He is a hungry man. He’s back for a reason. And he and coach Washington, I know they meet a lot and look at different ways to help him improve as an individual for sure.”

on me Avery Davis From a leadership perspective…

“I was at the offensive unit meeting yesterday. Coach Reese was talking about players who can be counted on. And Avery Davis He was the first person to raise it. A guy who’s played five positions since he’s been here, but the guy whose offense can always depend on being in the right place.

“And you know, yeah, he’s a returning captain, but he’s moving into his sixth season. And a guy who’s gone through a lot of ups and downs, he’d be a great source for youngsters, but he’d be a dependable playmaker to attack. And so, he’s been a great captain, great seniors. Really good for attacking. we’ve got “.

ON PUNT RETURNS, GI’BRAN PAYNE…

“Today was our first day back to the girl game. So, I don’t know who was there yet. I’ll come with Coach Mason and see. I know Brandon Joseph did it. Matt Salerno did it. And the most important thing is you need someone there you can count on. On him.Girl back, you should get someone who is very confident, he will catch the ball in traffic. And if he can play and score, that’s an added bonus.

“But the first thing is for someone to make good decisions and is very dependable, and we can count on them to make good decisions. If Gi’Bran is one of them, that’s great. I’m sure everyone thinks they’re coming back from gambling on day one, and it would be one of them. It’s interesting to see who’s back there picking up the kicks.”

on me Jaden Mickey & Brandon Joseph Hunt…

“Anytime we have a return, that period is that anyone who is on attack has to go to defense. If you’re a cover unit on a special team, and anyone who’s on defense might have a chance to get their hands on the ball as a return, they should attack.”

“So we’re really just working on the basics, being able to get the ball in your hands, get the ball upright, do one cut, and get going. Defensively, being able to close the space, you put yourself in leverage to do a good tackle. So, this is a great opportunity for those people who need cross-training to train. I don’t think we’ll use them in attack.”

on me Zeke Corel & Blake Fisher Leaving practice due to overheating …

“Yeah. And so, it’s a great reminder. These guys have been breaking out their tails all summer to get in shape. And then, too, you get out of that first practice, the heat, the sweat, the anxiety, the energy, it all comes off. That’s why I mention them after the workout, Your job is to make sure you’re available. So what you have to do between now and tomorrow when we get back on the field, it’s up to you and it’s up to everyone to make sure they’re ready to go.”
